Eid Treat at KS2 The Halal Steak & Grill – Review: A Delicious Surprise!

This Eid, my friends and I were in the mood for something a little extra — something meaty, juicy, and memorable. Naturally, steak came to mind. It had been a while since we’d had a good beef steak, and we wanted somewhere halal, preferably near Scarborough.

The Discovery: KS2 The Halal Steak & Grill

After a few Google searches at the beginning of June 2025, we stumbled upon KS2 The Halal Steak & Grill, with an impressive 4.8/5 rating on Google Map application.

Sounded promising! Eh!

And since “precaution is a part of Muslim faith,” we decided to book a table in advance — and thank goodness we did! When we arrived, the place was buzzing — car parking was packed outside and people swarming inside. Without a reservation, we would’ve been in serious trouble.

First Impressions: A Nice Surprise

Before we even placed our order, the restaurant surprised us with complimentary bread and a brief, yet engaging, presentation of their daily specials — they even brought out an actual cut of meat to show the available sizes. It was a touch more typical of Italian spots, but definitely appreciated. Browsing the menu while nibbling on warm, fresh bread set a pleasant tone for the evening.

Later, while chatting with one of the owners, Shakib bhai, we discovered that KS2 is actually Bangladeshi-owned! A group of friends, including him, run the place together. Unlike many Bangladeshi restaurants that tend to cut corners, their philosophy is simple: never underserve. The portions are generous, and the pricing is fair — if anything, you get more than what you pay for!

The Food: Worth the Price

I won’t lie — KS2 is a bit on the expensive side. But the portion sizes were solid — which is rare in Bangladeshi restaurants around Toronto. Anyone who’s ordered Kacchi at a Bangladeshi restaurant knows what I mean — either too much meat with barely any rice, or vice versa. It’s so common that we’ve actually ordered Kacchi from two different places at once just to mix and match the meat-to-rice ratio ourselves! One time, a place served me a $15 Mughlai paratha — and I only realized the price after it arrived. That one’s on me, but seriously — what logic leads to a $15 egg-and-paratha combo?!

Anyway — back to KS2.

What We Ordered

I went with the New York beef steak (cut from the loin), paired with French fries. My friend Farah ordered hers with mashed potatoes, which, to be honest, tasted even better than the fries.

I always order my steak well-done, which is risky — many restaurants end up burning it into rubber. KS2, thankfully, got it just right. The steak was juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. No complaints.

For those who don’t eat beef, they also serve chicken steak. I stole a bite from my wife’s plate — it wasn’t bad, though not as tasty as the beef. To be fair, my wife’s a great cook — she can make a better chicken steak at home (Sorry, KS2 team!).
